Computer Assisted Rehabilitation ENvironment (CAREN)

CAREN is a virtual reality system, comprising a motion platform with 6 degrees of freedom (6DOF), a dual belt instrumented treadmill, a motion capture system, a 180 degree projection screen, and 5 speaker surround system, all of which are integrated through D-flow software (Motekforce link, Netherlands).

The system at Human Engineering Research Laboratories (HERL) is specifically adapted to accommodate the needs of wheel chair users, with a dual wide belt instrumented treadmill, and eight tie down points for attaching wheelchairs with different configurations.

As the lead graduate student working on CAREN, I was involved with the physical design and installation of the system at HERL. Currently, I develop applications for the various projects that employ CAREN.
